EM Microelectronic Enables Green IoT With Revolutionary Ultra-Low-Power Real-Time-Clock
EM3028 extends battery life of connected devices by 50%
EM Microelectronic, the ultra-low-power semiconductor company of the Swatch Group, and a leading technology provider for connected objects, today announced the release of its EM3028 Extreme low power Real-Time Clock (RTC) module, setting a new industry benchmark for accuracy and power consumption.
EM3028 leads the way for green IoT applications, with 50% extended battery life compared to its closest competitor, at double the accuracy. It extends the device life span at a reduced overall BOM cost.
The EM RTCs provide an elegant solution for increasing the autonomy of connected devices, by providing accurate sleep and wake-up timing for their power-hungry elements, thus enhancing the global user experience. The frustrating need to frequently charge or replace the batteries of a wearable device becomes a thing of the past with the EM3028 used as an ideal companion for EM’s energy harvesting solutions, this unique combination requiring, in certain applications, no charging or battery replacement throughout the complete device life span. http://bit.ly/2ukv4mx

The RV-3028-C7 is the first ultra-low power RTC-module requiring just 40nA!
Micro Crystal AG’s new Real-time Clock Module RV-3028-C7 sets the new benchmark for lowest power consumption: 40 nA at a supply 3 V.
The high accuracy of ±1 ppm at room temperature eliminates any calibration during manufacturing. The tiny package of just 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.8 mm combines the quartz crystal with the RTC circuit, offering also an integrated battery-back-up switch. The extreme low power consumption allows using MLCC capacitors to cover the back-up time. Together with an event detection input it features all the prerequisites for Wearables, Medical Healthcare and power sensitive IoT applications. http://bit.ly/2GbQVkX
New In Digi-Key Article Library: Take Advantage of IC Load Switches’ Features to Safely Minimize Power Consumption
Digi-Key North American Editor Bill Schweber Explains:
To minimize power consumption, a simple MOSFET is often used to gate power to unused circuits. However, a better option is to use a load switch as it has additional functions to handle the many subtleties and vagaries of power-rail management.
Load switches are offered with an array of performance parameters and ratings from multiple vendors, which enables a good fit between application priorities and available parts. http://bit.ly/2HVqSvj
Samtec’s EXTreme Ten60Power™ System Available with Higher Density and AC Power Options
Extreme Power/Signal System with up to 60 A/Blade and a Low 10 mm Profile
Samtec’s EXTreme Ten60Power™ header and socket system (ET60T/ET60S Series) is available in both power/signal combinations and power only for increased design flexibility. The new 5-row signal option allows for up to 40 positions in the same form factor as the 3-row option. For higher density without the need for additional space, the 5-row design features a 2.00 mm pitch, versus the 3-row on a 2.54 mm pitch. http://bit.ly/2HUZ76i
